About the Position
The City of O'Fallon is seeking a dedicated and experienced Park Maintenance Crew Leader to join our Parks & Recreation team. This position is responsible for supervising and participating in the daily operations, maintenance, and improvement of City parks, athletic fields, and public spaces. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader who takes pride in creating safe, beautiful, and well-maintained environments for our community to enjoy. This position will work primarily out of Westhoff Park which offers a host of amenities: two lighted baseball diamonds, two lighted softball fields, two pee wee fields, multi-use courts (for roller hockey, basketball and pickleball), horseshoe pits, sand volleyball, tennis courts, Westhoff Plaza skate and BMX park, a splash pad, and two playgrounds (including, Brendan's Playground).
Paid CDL Training Program available.
Leadership & Supervision
Schedule, prioritize, and coordinate day-to-day work for assigned park maintenance personnel.
Supervise, train, and evaluate full- and part-time staff.
Enforce safety policies and ensure adherence to City and departmental procedures.
Parks & Grounds Maintenance
Perform playground inspections and assist with minor repairs.
Mow, trim, and manage care of athletic fields and non-turf areas.
Coordinate operation, maintenance, and repair of irrigation systems.
Plan and oversee pesticide and fertilizer programs.
Clean and inspect pavilions, restrooms, parking lots, and playgrounds daily to ensure user safety.
Oversee minor construction and facility maintenance (painting, plumbing, carpentry).
Operate a variety of equipment including dump trucks, backhoes, excavators, skid steers, and turf maintenance equipment.
Specialized Park Duties
Athletic Parks: Prepare athletic fields for play through mowing, grooming, lining, and setting bases.
Passive Parks: Maintain lakes, creeks, wetlands, and natural areas through erosion control, invasive species management, and chemical treatments.
Maintain disc golf courses and other park amenities.
Perform splash pad and water feature maintenance, including chemical testing and balancing.
Participate in snow removal operations.
Assist with setup and support for festivals and special events.
Minimum Requirements:
High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or equivalent education preferred.
Three (3) to five (5) years of related experience in parks or grounds maintenance, including supervisory experience.
Valid Class A CDL (or ability to obtain).
Strong knowledge of irrigation, turf management, small engine repair, and general construction principles.
Familiarity with pesticide and herbicide applications and compliance with safety standards.
Ability to work evenings, weekends, and on-call shifts as needed.

This position involves both indoor and outdoor work in varying weather conditions. Must be able to lift heavy objects, climb ladders, operate maintenance equipment, and use tools requiring manual dexterity. Personal protective equipment may be required.
