Shop Technician – Fabrication

Position Summary:

The Shop Technician plays a vital role in the fabrication shop, supporting production through hands-on tasks involving metal preparation, assembly, and finishing. This position is ideal for individuals with mechanical aptitude and a strong work ethic who thrive in a fast-paced, safety-conscious environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assembly & Fabrication
• • Assemble metal components using bolts, rivets, or welds.
  • Read and interpret basic blueprints and fabrication drawings.
  • Assist welders and machinists with setup and part handling.
• Deburring & Finishing
• • Perform hand deburring of metal parts using files, sanders, and grinders.
  • Operate machine deburr equipment to smooth edges and surfaces.
  • Inspect parts for burrs, sharp edges, and finish quality.
• Press Machine Operations
• • Operate basic press machines (e.g., arbor press, hydraulic press) for forming and shaping metal.
  • Load/unload parts and monitor press operation for safety and accuracy.
• Tool Use & Maintenance
• • Use basic hand tools (screwdrivers, wrenches, calipers) and power tools (drills, grinders).
  • Conduct preventive maintenance on tools and report issues to supervisors.
• General Shop Duties
• • Stage materials, clean work areas, and support inventory tasks.
  • Assist with packaging and preparing finished goods for shipment.
  • Follow all safety protocols and wear appropriate PPE.

Skills & Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent experience required.
• Vocational training in welding or machining is preferred.
• Experience in metalworking or manufacturing is a plus.
• Familiarity with hand and power tools.
• Basic understanding of press machine operations and deburring techniques preferred.
• Ability to follow written instructions and blueprints.
• Physical Requirements:
• • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Comfortable working around loud machinery and metalworking processes.
